Meat – Chicken Wings Facts

The winglet is usually not the most meat-rich part. One chicken wing contains no more than 30 grams of meat. So, if you order a pound of wings at a restaurant, you will get about 12 pieces. Usually, they include the drumette (the most nutritious part of the wing), the tip and the middle.

However, there are different variations in wing feeding. With or without bones, only drumette and middle or drumette and tips. They are also sold as a whole.

Origins – Chicken Wings Story

In the past chicken wings were not favored as restaurant dishes. They were sold along with the leftovers and used only for chicken broth.

But one day a guy from Buffalo made a winged revolution. He smeared the chicken wings with sauce and baked in the oven because he couldn’t find anything else in his house to eat as a nighttime snack.

Fortunately, this guy was a co-owner of “Ancor Bar” and the next day made chicken wings the main dish of his café-bar. The popularity of his wings spread throughout all Buffalo, and then around the world.

Chicken wings began to be actively served in sports bars. They are cheap, easy to cook, and the taste is incredible. Demand was always rising! The period of the 70s and 80s was a peak of their popularity as a dish, at the same time, there were invented a lot of new cooking recipes like breaded wings, wings in batter or in different sauces, etc.

Super Bowl and Chicken Wings

Now there is data showing that Americans eat about 1.3 billion wings on Super Bowl Sundays. Just imagine, you can thrice overlay the Earth with the number of these wings!

It’s also known, that Rancho remains the main sauce for wings, according to the National Chicken Council. Mustard, tomato, BBQ sauce are also popular.

The more, the better! In fact, 4-5 wings are enough for an average family. If you’re going to invite guests to a party, remember that it takes about 6 ounces of meat per person – that’s about 6 whole wings per person. They will disappear very quickly, especially with the right and tasty sauce!

At the same time, the portion can be reduced a little if you serve the wings only as an appetizer, not as a main dish. 3-4 wings per person will be enough.

Chicken wings are one of the finest snacks in our restaurant. Usually, we give about 2-3 wings per person, but now, due to the pandemic, we are opening an online delivery service. And there are completely different indicators for portions.

Different restaurants have different sizes of dishes. We have a chain of small cafes along the road in North Carolina serving 14-15 wings per serving. Isn’t this happiness?
