Why is it challenging to reheat Hollandaise Sauce?

There might be some unavoidable circumstances when hollandaise sauce isn’t served fresh and requires reheating. It really is a tricky thing to do for two valid reasons: we could cook the eggs and the sauce might separate.

You must take extra effort to reheat the sauce carefully.

Here are two useful methods you may want to consider:

Using a Microwave

Microwave is one way to go! Setting it in a low power will save your sauce. Pick the lowest heat possible to avoid cooking the eggs or even separating the sauce.

Here’s how:

  1. Put your hollandaise sauce in a microwaveable container.
  2. At 20 percent power, microwave it for 15 seconds only. Yes, 15 seconds because we’re trying to avoid cooking the eggs.
  3. Wait for another 15 seconds before you reheat again.
  4. Repeat the process until hollandaise sauce is completely reheated.

Seems a little tricky but I’m sure you can do it!

Stovetop Reheating

Another method of reheating this sauce is using a stovetop. It is absolutely possible to warm up hollandaise sauce here but you have to really keep an eye on it.

We don’t want scrambled eggs here, right? Right! So, avoid putting a high heat. Low heat is the key!

Here’s how:

  1. Put your sauce in a skillet or in a saucepan.
  2. Set the stove into low heat. Don’t worry! You can do it right.
  3. Stir to make sure the sauce is heating up evenly.
  4. Melted butter and water will help the sauce blend again nicely. Feel free to add some!
  5. And you’re done! You may enjoy your hollandaise sauce again.

Pro Tips

  • If your hollandaise sauce separated and just don’t combine again, add some splashes of water while you mix it.
  • Hollandaise sauce is best served fresh. Store it a warmer box if you have to make it in advance so you can avoid reheating it.

I tried this sauce for the first time somewhere in Italy. It seems nothing complicated, but such a delicate and exciting taste! Can be eaten as well with hot toasts as with chips

When my wife and me married, we went to Holland for a short trip. there were just a couple restourants where this sauce could be cooked really well. In Holland!

I use hollandaise sauce for burgers. But if you are going to have breakfast with this, that’s a shame. The sauce hardens and turns into an unpleasant mixture. 🙁
I usually have to cook it all over again.
